January 2006 Fiberglass

1/1/2006

Happy New Year!!  I'm happy to start 2006 with a good work day in the shop.  First, I reinstalled the trim tab that I removed for my tech counselor to look at.  Then I dimpled the HS tips and countersunk the HS fiberglass tips.  I'm gonna wait to install these because I think there will be some trimming to do, and I need to fill the open end with foam and filler.  Then I moved on to the elevator tips.  These did get riveted in place.  I match drilled the tips first to #40 then to #30.  You can see in the pic on the right, that there is a definite gap that will need to be filled.

Then I deburred and dimpled the elevator edges and countersunk the tips.  I trimmed the tips a little to allow for some edge rounding of the counterweight to fit the HS tips nicely.  After the trimming, I riveted them in place.

You can see above the trimming that I did on the tips so I can file down the weight to fit better.

Tonight was a pretty quick work night, but I did get the VS tip drilled, deburred, dimpled, and countersunk.  Pretty much the same stuff as above.

I also re-glued the left HS tip AL.  For some reason, there are a couple of places that the T-88 didn't hold when I drilled the holes.  So, I mixed some more and I'll let it sit overnight.  This is about the last thing I need to do before mixing up some microfiller and teach myself how to use the stuff!  I hope my clecos come out tomorrow!
